Error Analysis and Implications Study

As one of the basic skills, writing should have been paying more attention on. Actually, writing is in an awkward situation. Comparing with reading,both teachers and students pay less attention on it and students make many errors in writing. The author has collected 50 pieces of compositions for this thesis. There are six parts in this thesis. The first part is introduction which includes research background and significance. The second part is literature review which includes error, Contrastive Analysis, Error Analysis and Interlanguage. The third part is methodology which includes research purpose, research objectives and data analysis. The forth part is results and discussion, and errors are analyzed in this part. The fifth part is implications for writing teaching. There are two implications be pointed out in this part. The last part is conclusion.

Based on Error Analysis and relevant theories, this thesis attempts to collect, analyze and explain the errors found in high school students' compositions. Then some strategies will be put forward to provide guidance for improving the students' writing and to promote efficient teaching of high school English writing. With the results of relative studies carried out already as a reference, the author of this thesis groups the errors in the students' compositions into three categories, namely, local errors, global errors, other errors. Local errors include, noun errors, verb errors, adjective and adverb errors, preposition errors, article errors and pronoun errors. Global errors include sentence fragment, errors in conjunction and errors in word order. Other errors include spelling errors, case sensitivity errors and punctuation errors. Comparing with primary and junior school students, senior high school students have learned English a longer time, so they have a more complete knowledge system. In this aspect, errors senior high school students made are more typical. What is more, analyzing their compositions and coming up with some strategies can help them get better grades for senior high school students are facing college entrance examination. In addition, two practical methods for improving the current teaching of English writing in senior high schools are pointed out. It is hoped that this theme will do some contributions in the teaching of writing.
